Okay.. so here's the deal..i formated my C drive.... installed WindowsXP professional edition.. love it.. BUT here is the thing...

I have 4 PC's...
all networked with their own static IP addresses.
They've all been configured correctly and the speed was great on all 4 ... even while all in use...

Anyways.. here's where my problem begins... i was at my fathers house... when i formated the harddrive.. and was on his network... his network is closed and has no open lines to the outside net. Anyways.. we get my PC up and working.. and on his network.. we tested the file sharing.. but did not really transfer anything but family pictures...

I get home.. (the network is working fine at this point) and start hooking everything up.. i put my computer on the network and wait for it to boot...
as soon as it boots.. i notice that everything on the network is EXTREMELY slow..

my little windows 2000 server box goes from downloading at 356kb / sec to around 3.2-3.6 kbytes a second (some times lower)

i look at my modem (across the house), and the lights are totally flipping out.. they look like a 70's strobe light with the little strobe knob pulled to its highest level....

so.. i figure... it has to be the new XP machine.. so i go in.. and pull it off the network... shortly after.. the modem is back to its normal occational blink.. and speed returns.. what could be the problem?!?!?!

D: thanks for any help you guys can give me! - Chris

Have you got your machines IP address, submask, gateway, the same before you brought the machine to your fathers house,Does your father use the same ISP as you,it seems to me like you have it configured to your fathers network and not yours, your going to have to blow your TCP/IP stack and rebuild it to match your network

In Windows XP, the TCP/IP stack is considered a core component of the operating system; therefore, it is not possible to uninstall TCP/IP in Windows XP. However, the TCP/IP stack can be reset to the state when the OS was first installed.
Go to Start Menu -> RUN

Type "command" click OK
In the new window that pops up type this "NETSH INTERFACE IP RESET LOG.TXT" (less quotes), then press enter.
Reboot, if you like.

After you reboot set your settings to your network

Next time you reformat and install windows make sure you do it on your network and not someone elses for it to work right,Hope this helps
