Uninstalling McAfee..Help!

:doh: Hi!
I cannot uninstall McAfee viurs program off my computer to put on Norton...
I have tried going to start, programs, mcafee uninstall, Security Center & Viurs Online...I have went to the icon on system tray to disable, and exit...That didn't work!

I went to control panel, add/remove, it unstalled but a box pops upthat I have to uninstall SERVICE first...The little box is not lit up or clickable...What can I do??

What version of McAfee are you running.

To start out (I know the OS is different but it shouldn't matter) try this: Uninstall McAfee (http://www.helpdesk.uconn.edu/virus/newwin95/html/mcafee-uninstall.html)

I get as far as this>>
Click Yes to confirm uninstall.
Click Yes when you see the suggestion to restart the system. You will see a progress gauge as McAfee is uninstalled, similar to the one shown below:

But the restart button is not clickable or lit up.. the cancel is lit and clickable..? :wacko:

I had windows 98, upgraded to windows 2000 pro...
Could it be that I didn't disable the McAfee, before the upgrade..
My old computer quit, and this one was my sister-in-laws old one.
Since I am new to this computer stuff, I didn't think of disabling before now..
Oops! I am also new to the virus programs.... :doh:

I just went through the same thing (several times)
McAfee 7 crashed on me after having been completely dependable. I needed a firewall anyway, and decided to install Norton AV and Firewall 2003.

McAfee wouldn't uninstall, and I ended up deleting all files and folders manually, then editing the registry to remove all references to McAfee and Network Associates. I ran into some problems with Norton and decided to reinstall McAfee AV and Firewall. I had to uninstall Norton the same way (manually), and I then reinstalled McAfee.

This time, however, Vshield wouldn't load, no matter what I tried. After waiting in queue at McAfee tech support chat for over 3 hours (I was still 36th in queue), I got angry and uninstalled McAfee (manually) again.

I now have Norton running, although I'm still having the same problem (Live Update).

The bottom line is that neither McAfee or Norton is easy to uninstall, but it CAN be done :clap:

McAfee IMO is the biggest piece of bloat/crapware on the planet. Just when you think you have all of it wiped out, you find more stuff conflicting with other processes.
