Oxymorons

An oxymoron is a combination of contradictory words. If you describe a dog as pretty ugly, you have used the oxymoron: pretty ugly. Pretty means the opposite of, or contradicts, ugly. Although this is the case, we would still know what you meant by pretty ugly. We would not be confused by the contradiction.

This is one of my favorite poems, it contains a few oxymorons.

What The Blind Man Saw

One Bright Day in the middle of the night
Two dead boys got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other
A deaf policeman heard the noise
He came and shot down the two dead boys
If you don't believe this lie is true
Go ask the blind man he saw it too.
