Found an image you like, but it has writing on it you would like to change, here's how. Have you ever had a signature that had a name on it that you would like to take off and replace with another name? Well, here's a simple way to do that on a non-animated image.
Here is my image that I want to change -
The background is white, so I will need a white background -

The first thing I want to do is to measure the name that I am trying to cover. I do this by using a small piece of paper and marking the approximate area onto the paper.
Now I go to http://www.gifworks.com and click on "file" and then "file open". When the next page appears, click on "browse" and find your white image. Click on it and now click "open". Now click "upload image" and wait for your image to appear.
Now go to "edit" and "resize/crop" and then to "crop". When the image appears, place your paper sample piece up to the white area to get a visual as to where you want to crop. Then click on the top left corner and wait for the next page. Now click on the bottom right corner to get your new white image. Your smaller white image will appear on another page. Right click to save your image to your computer.
Here is the size that I needed to cover the name. Please feel free to right click and save it to your computer to use if you feel that it will cover the area you need. Then you can bypass the above instructions for cropping the white background.

Now go to http://studio.imagemagick.org/MagickStudio/scripts/MagickStudio.cgi and click on "browse". When the box comes up, find your original image with the name on it. Click on it and then click "open". Now click on "view" and wait for the next page.
When it appears, click on "composite". Again click on "browse" and find your smaller white image, click on it and then click "open". On my image, the name I want to cover up is on the bottom right side so I set my "gravity" to "southeast". The only other options you need to work with is the "offset" numbers. When you put those in, then press to "composite" and wait for your image to appear. I first tried +0+5, but it was not high enough. After a couple more attempts, I finally covered the whole name by using +0+12. If you ever need to move left and right, you can change the first +0. The second +0 which is the one we used here, will move up and down.
If it is not exactly where you want it, you will need to change your numbers. You can click your "back" button to reset the numbers - but, note that you will have to click your "browse" button again and find your white small image each time that you click your "back" button.
When you get it exactly the way you want it, then click on the "output" tab up top and then on the "output" button on the next page and wait for your new image to appear. When it does, click on it and wait for it to load on another page where you can right click and save it to your computer.
Now you can use one of the other tutorials to write a new colored text name on your image. Don't forget - you can also take off the white background by adding a transparency after you write the new colored text name.
This instruction was based for the white background, but you can crop off a "piece" of any background and do the same thing!
Here is our finished image!
