If you have just upgraded from an earlier version of Windows to XP, there is a strong possibility that some of your old programs might experience running problems. Microsoft has built this handy utility that will allow some of these programs to be used.
Click on the Start menu, choose All Programs > Accessories > Compatibility Wizard, or you can click on either a shortcut to or the actual program itself and select Properties > Compatibility Tab

The first choice you need to make is what program you want to run in compatibility mode. You can choose a program from a CD-ROM or one installed on your computer, Click on your selection, then click Next and a list of programs on your PC will be assembled ( it might take a few minutes) When the list appears, select a program you are having problems with and then click Next.

On the following screen, select the set of Window's parameters you would like the program to run with. Probably the most widely supported of these is Windows 98/ME. Click on the option to select your choice and then click Next.

The following screen deals with Colours and Resolution. There are three options to reduce to color setting to 256, to reduce the screen area to 640 X 480, or to disable the visual themes. The most effective choice is to disable visual themes. Click on the check box next to that option to select it. If you are unsure about which other settings you might need to change, you can always come back later.

Click on Next again and you will be presented with a summary of the Compatibility settings that you have chosen for the program. Click on Next and the program will begin to run. The wizard will ask you if the program worked correctly. If it worked correctly you can select Yes, set this program to always use these compatibility settings. If not, you can choose No, try different compatibility setting and see if other settings will work, or choose No, I am finished trying compatibility settings. Click Next when you have made your choice.

If you are still experiencing problems, select "Try a different compatibility setting" and click Next.
