![]() Here you will find a knowledge base for software that the staff has decided needs to be explained in a little more detail. Most of the software talked about in the shareware/freeware forum will be explained once here rather than each time there is an update. It should also be stated that MyPcClinic has no affiliation with any software or hardware. These are simply programs some of our members have tried, used, and suggest to others. So feel free to look over the Knowedge Base and if you have any questions about any of the programs talked about here please post them in the forum. Click the name of the software below to be taken to it's description.
Adaware is a Windows based program that allows an individual to scan RAM, Registry, hard drives, and external storage devices for known data mining, advertising, and tracking components. Ad-aware will rid your system of these tracking components, allowing you to maintain a higher degree of privacy while you surf the web. Many members at MPC use this program in conjunction to Spybot Search and Destroy. No conflicts will arise from using both programs. A download can be found: Here The website is: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ (The successor of AIDA32, Everest is a system information and benchmarking tool with full hardware & software information. is a free Internet Explorer browser extension that spell checks text input boxes on a webpage. It should come in particularly handy for users who do a lot of web-based text entry (e.g. web mails, forums). Plus you get to store and use your personal word list across all your applications, instead of maintaining separate ones on each application. The program installs as a new button in the IE toolbar (as well as a new menu item under "Tools") - after filling in a form, just hit the ieSpell button and it pops up a dialog, similar to the MS Word spell check. ieSpell is not spyware or adware. Its free for personal use only.To find out more and download click the link:ieSpell Irfanview is a brilliant graphics viewer that also happens to be freeware. It is for Windows based Operating Systems. You can not only view images and graphics but you can also do some simple editing. Here is a complete list of what Irfanview can do:
Irfanview's home page is located at:http://www.irfanview.com/ Are you tired of receiving SPAM in your email box? You know the kind, offers to make millions only working 15 minutes a day. And how about the ones with magical ways to enhance certain parts of the human anatomy. Well, if you are as tired of these as I am, check out Mailwasher. The free version allows you to use it on 1 email account. It (free version) doesn't work with Hotmail or MSN, but if you like it, there is a paid version that will. I use it on my work email which utilizes Exchange, and it works quite well. The utility provides the user with a way to not only delete those unwanted emails, but also add them to a blacklist so that they won't see them. No big deal you say, how about the ability to make your address appear non existent. With the handy Bounce function, mailwasher gives the user the ability to bounce that message right back to the sender as a bad address. I have used it for about a year and I like it. Mailwasher This program can detect and remove spyware of different kinds from your computer. Spyware is a relatively new kind of threat that common anti-virus applications do not yet cover. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you didn't intentionally install, if your browser crashes, or if you browser start page has changed without your knowing, you most probably have spyware. But even if you don't see anything, you may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging that is silently tracking your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile of you that will be sold to advertisement companies. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm in trying to see if something snooped into your computer, too. By setting a "kill bit" for spyware ActiveX controls, SpywareBlaster can prevent the installation of any spyware ActiveX controls from a webpage. It does this while not interfering with "friendly" ActiveX controls - so your browser can work correctly and you can have peace of mind! You won't get any more annoying "Yes/No" boxes popped up, asking you to install a spyware ActiveX control (which can increasingly be found in pop-up ads!). In fact, Internet Explorer will never even download or run the spyware ActiveX control! In addition, SpywareBlaster can prevent many of these spyware ActiveX controls from running, even if they are already installed on your system.* The newest SpywareBlaster version can even block spyware/tracking cookies! The SpywareBlaster database contains information on these known spyware Active-X controls. Make sure you run the Check For Updates feature frequently to get the latest database! (And make sure you check the new items to protect your system against them!)
SpywareBlaster System Snapshot works a lot like Microsoft's System Restore for Windows ME/XP - however it exclusively targets items used by spyware and browser hijackers to embed themselves into your system - so you can get the results you want: a spyware-free system. SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
