Making an Alphabet Name Print E-mail
Contributed by Linda

Spell out your name with animated letters and combine them into one image.

First, go to one of the sites below and click on the alphabets that you will need.  Due to the amount of graphics on each page, allow the page plenty of time to load.  If you have any of the little white boxes with the red x in them, just right click each one and choose "show picture".  Make sure that your animated letter is fully downloaded before you save it.  When you find the letters that you need, right click and save them to your computer.  I chose the top alphabet site and then from their site - I chose "Heroic".  Check out all the sites, you'll find some really neat alphabets!

*Note - be sure to check the file size of the alphabets.  To do this, right click on them and choose "properties".  Some of the letters are huge, so as you put them together - your file size for your finished image may be too large for you to use.  If that happens, don't be discouraged!  Go back and find a smaller file size alphabet.  I took a quick peek and noticed that the virtuallandmedia site did indeed have much smaller file sizes.

Now we will need a white background which I have supplied below.  I like to start with the white so that you can tell where you are positioning the letters.  Later, we can make it transparent.  Just right click and "save" the white background to your computer.

Keep in mind, that your "offset" numbers will probably be different - depending on what font style you choose.  Also, please read through the tutorial first as you will see where and how I had to make corrections.  This will help you determine how to correct your settings with your font.

White background -

*If you ever find that one of the Imagemagick sites won't work in the tutorial, please check here for additional Imagemagick sites. http://www.mypcclinic.com/forums/sh...9984#post129984

Now go to http://studio.imagemagick.net/MagickStudio/scripts/MagickStudio.cgi and click on "browse".  In the popup box, find your white background name, click on it and then click "view".  Your image will appear on the next page.  On that page, click on the "composite" tab up top and wait for the next page.  Now click on "browse" and find your first alphabet that you are going to need.  Now click on "open".  Under that, click the little down arrow on your "gravity" option and choose "west".  Leave all the other options alone.    Now "press to composite" and wait for the next page.  When it appears, you will see your first letter sitting on the far left.  Now click the "composite" tab up top again.  Now find your second alphabet and click on it and then click "open".  This time we need to change the "offset" numbers.  Change them to +60+0 and leave the other options as they are.  If your letters are too close, try +65+0 or +70+0.

Now, click the "composite" tab up top again and find your next letter.  I have now changed my "offset" number to +120+0 (just guessing).  Now, "press to composite" and wait for the next page.  When my image comes up - my spacing is off.  To remedy this, I hit the "back" button on my browser - click the "browse" button again and find my same letter.  Click on it and click "open".  Now, I'm going to try putting in +100+0 to pull the letters together.  Now "press to composite" and let's see how that looks.  Almost, but not quite.  I have again hit my "back" button - clicked the "browse" box and found my letter again and this time I'm trying +95+0.  That looks much better!

Okay on to the next letter!  Again I go up to the "composite" tab up top and click it, then click on "browse" and find my next letter - click on it and then click "open".   This time I tried +180+0 and again it was over too much.  I hit the back button, clicked on "browse" and found my letter again and this time I tried +170+0 and it looks fine.

Okay my last letter - I click on the "composite" tab up top and find my letter - click on it and then click "open" and set my numbers to +230+0 and it looks fine.

As you can see, it's just a matter of guessing and if it's not right - just click back - find that same image again and reset the offset numbers.  When you get the image the way you want it - click on the "output" tab up top and wait for the next page.  Make sure you are saving as a "gif" and have the "multi-frame file" option checked.  Now "press to output".

When your image appears, left click the top, big image to bring it up on a page by itself and then right click and save it to your computer.  Sometimes trying to right click on that first page and saving it might make it have display problems - other times it will work fine.  But to be safe, I always bring it up on that page by itself and then right click to save it.  If you get an error message or the image won't save correctly, click your back button and go back to your finished image to right click and save from that page.

Here is the finished image -

If your white needs to be cropped/trimmed, use this tutorial http://www.mypcclinic.com/content/view/81/86/ picking the Gifworks option as you can work with animated images.  With Myimager, you can only work with "still" images.  Then if you want to get rid of the white completely, use this tutorial http://www.mypcclinic.com/content/view/82/90/ again using the Gifworks option.
